Cheddar Bacon Stuffed Sliders

So I am sick as a damn dog right now. I’m sitting here writing to you in comfy socks, fuzzy pants, a layered sweater and jacket, my fingerless gloves (cause I’m typing you know), a scarf, and my fuzzy hat all wrapped in a comfy fuzzy blanket. Oh yeah, did I mention the tissue I have permanently attached to my nose?

That’s an attractive picture right? Yeah, I thought so too. I plan on popping some cold medicine and passing out after this, so apologies if this seems hurried. Cause I’m not gonna lie, it is. I am rushing this, and I’m sorry for it, but I’m only going to be coherent/conscious so much longer tonight.

So since I’m feeling so crummy, I decided to share this awesome amazing and delicious feast of a post for you. Cheddar Bacon Stuffed Sliders! Read the rest of this entry

Salsa Chicken

This is my third week at my new job, and I feel like things are starting to settle down and I can start to establish some routines. Routines like making more dinners! And going to the gym after work! You know, simple things :)

Anyway, this was a quick and simple weeknight meal that I tried last week. Very low stress, which is just what I like after a grueling day in the kitchen! Hahaha I kid, my job isn’t really that grueling. Challenging, yes, and a freaking great learning experience to boot.

Regardless, that doesn’t make this recipe any less low stress! Read the rest of this entry

Honey and Spice Glazed Pork Chops

Posted on

Sorry about the late post guys! I was sitting here last night, and I reminded myself in my head that I needed to get this ready, and then of course I never did. Naturally!

Anyway, since I recently got a job,  our finances are finally starting to even out, which means I can finally start to stock our kitchen with things other than cheap pre-frozen chicken or fish. Exciting right??

So while at the store, I saw some pork chops and just couldn’t resist tossing them in the cart. I had no plan for these pork chops, but dammit I’m a culinary school graduate, and I knew I’d figure something out, and I did!

Cinnamon Raisin Biscuits

As you know, I posted about some absolutely delicious apple butter on Tuesday. Naturally, I don’t want to fall into the bad habit of canning things that will just never get used.

So I decided to browse my overly extensive recipe collection to find something that would compliment the apple butter. Lo and behold, I came upon this recipe for Cinnamon Raisin Biscuits. Read the rest of this entry

Apple Butter

So I have this awesome pressure canner, a small but respectable amount of available jars, and a ton of super duper adorable fabric squares to cover the tops of said jars should they ever happen to be filled with anything.

With all this in mind, I’ve really been trying to use my canner more often. With apples abundant and delicious at this time of year, I decided to try out making some apple butter! Read the rest of this entry

Slow Cooker Maple Praline Chicken

Late but not forgotten! Apologies for the late posting. There’s really no excuse except that my new job is thoroughly kicking my ass, in the best possible way. I’ve been averaging 10 hour days, plus the staying late puts me right smack dab in the middle of rush hour traffic, so there’s another hour gone.

This week have been filled with long, physically challenging days, usually topped off with the gym, and then crashing on the couch on or, I’m not gonna lie, before 9pm. And yet this week has been crazy satisfying! I meant to have this all set and ready to go last night, but I passed out around 8:30… Gah just typing that just makes me feel like such an old lady!

Now, on to the food part! I’ve been trying to use up some back of the pantry ingredients, and this Maple Praline Chicken helped me along with that! Read the rest of this entry

Homemade Pumpkin Puree

Well folks, it’s mid October, and you know what that means! Tis the season of the pumpkin! Tons of people only know the canned store bought version of pumpkin, but let me just say that making your own pumpkin puree at home is astoundingly simple. So much so that I am ashamed to admit that this was my first time making pumpkin puree.

Before I jump into the cooking part, I just want to a little squee! I had orientation for my new job on Monday, and actually got to work in the kitchen on Tuesday! This is probably a big no brainer, but a high volume cafeteria style kitchen is WAAAAAAAAAAAAAY different from what I’m used to in culinary school. Read the rest of this entry

Creamy Mac n’ Cheese

Welcome to the first recipe post on the new Tues/Thurs posting schedule :)

Today we’ve got some deliciously creamy homemade mac ‘n’ cheese! Who doesn’t love that? Especially with fall officially here and winter knocking at the front door already.

Basically I’m saying it’s cold here, and I enjoyed the hell out of this nice, warming meal oh this increasingly chilly night . Read the rest of this entry

Get with the program

So guess who got a real culinary job??

I DID!!

That’s right folks, I’m officially going to be working in a kitchen and putting this newly earned degree to use! And let me just say that this is one of the best starting jobs I could have asked for. I’ll have nights and weekends off, paid holidays and vacation, and health insurance! Most of that is almost unheard of in a culinary job unless you are at an executive chef level or working for a large corporation.

So needless to say I feel very lucky, and am really pleased. This will be a great experience for me, and I can’t wait to get started!

Now, apologies for last week. I’m still toying around with how I want the new system to work here. As of right now, I’m going to go with a Tues/Thurs update schedule instead of the old one. That way I can hopefully stay on top of the blog and keep on track :)

Regular recipe posts will resume bright and early tomorrow morning!
